Kapsch TrafficCom Wins Large Electronic Tolling Project in the USA.

Vienna, 10th June 2021 – Kapsch TrafficCom (Kapsch) is pleased to announce that Plenary Infrastructure Group (Plenary) has awarded Kapsch a project to implement a new toll collection system for the Louisiana Highway (LA-1) for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD). The project is an amendment to Kapsch’s existing contract with Plenary, where Kapsch is providing an end-to-end all-electronic tolling system and related maintenance services for a major bridge and tunnel replacement in Belle Chasse, Louisiana .  Plenary began construction on the new bridge and tunnel  in January 2020. Kapsch’s scope of work for the LA-1 project includes updating the existing tolling infrastructure with the Kapsch advanced lane solution, updating and providing back off systems and services, as well as advancing modern efficiencies into operations and maintenance. The new system will work with the state’s current GeauxPass transponder program, and will include new system features such as a toll-by-plate program. Implementation activities are scheduled to commence in 2023, followed by 30 years of technical and commercial operations. “We look forward to the ongoing partnership with Plenary and the Louisiana Department of Transportation,” said JB Kendrick, president of Kapsch TrafficCom North America. “These infrastructure and tolling system investments will provide the modern facilities and operational efficiencies that can optimize the travel experience for Louisiana drivers.”

Hämmerle will join Executive Board on July 1, 2021

Management Changes/Personnel Andreas Hämmerle will join the Executive Board of Kapsch TrafficCom as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with effect from July 1, 2021. He currently holds the position of Executive Vice President Finance at the company. Commenting on the appointment, Georg Kapsch, Chief Executive Officer of Kapsch TrafficCom says: “I would like to congratulate Andreas Hämmerle and welcome him as a new colleague in the Executive Board. JB Kendrick appointed President of Kapsch TrafficCom North America

Ms. Kendrick joined Kapsch in 2017 as Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development, a role in which she was instrumental in growing the tolling, traffic management, and connected vehicle business for Kapsch TrafficCom North America. “It is my pleasure to announce JB Kendrick as the new President Kapsch TrafficCom North America,” says Georg Kapsch, Chief Executive Officer of Kapsch TrafficCom. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama and is a member of the “Women in Tolling” group of the International Bridge, Tunnel, and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) as well as several local philanthropic organizations. She will continue to be based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Preliminary results for financial year 2020/21.

10:47 CEST The financial year 2020/21 of Kapsch TrafficCom ended on March 31, 2021. Based on preliminary figures, the company expects revenues of about EUR 500 million. The operating result (EBIT) including negative special effects will be a loss of about EUR 124 million. The most relevant negative special effects account for an EBIT impact of about EUR 139 million and include: EUR -79 million: Adjustment of project margins and provisions for onerous contracts, particularly for projects in North America EUR -21 million: Goodwill impairment EUR -14 million: Provisions for restructurings EUR -8 million: Provision for lawsuit in the USA EUR -8 million: Currency effects EUR -6 million: Impairment of inventory EUR -3 million: Impairment of trade receivables Despite the significantly negative result, the equity ratio still amounts to about 14%. As of March 31, 2021, Kapsch TrafficCom held liquid funds in excess of EUR 100 million.

Kapsch TrafficCom’s pioneering European technology will connect intelligent traffic lights with driverless buses in Malaga

The company installs traffic controllers that inform an autonomous public transport vehicle of green and red traffic signals The AUTOMOST project aims to advance the automation of public transport Madrid, April 12, 2021 – Kapsch TrafficCom (Kapsch) has implemented a connected vehicle (V2X) project in Malaga, Spain for AUTOMOST. This EU-funded R&D project, developed by the bus fleet manager AVANZA together with the City of Malaga and the Port of Malaga, aims to advance the automation of public transport. Kapsch, as an international provider of connected vehicle technology and services, has installed intelligent traffic light controllers that directly transmit SPaT (Signal Phase and Timing) information from the traffic lights to the autonomous bus for each lane accessing the controlled junction. The Malaga City Council, which is committed to Malaga’s development as a technological and innovative “smart city ”, has chosen the port as the test area to develop this autonomous vehicle project and to analyse the benefits of automating public transport in a more controllable way, as it hosts a less complex bus line. Kapsch was selected by the Malaga City Council in 2020 to supply 11 EcoTrafiX™ traffic light controllers with their corresponding roadside units (RSU), which are now connected to the AUTOMOST technology platform to provide real-time information between the buses and infrastructure at select Malaga intersections with traffic lights. They replace the original controllers that did not support SPaT features. The SpaT information provided by Kapsch technology will include current traffic light status and time remaining until the next light change. This will allow the buses and other equipped vehicles to know the exact red, green or yellow light times in advance in order to match their speeds accordingly and manage their autonomous driving. This is an innovative program and the first of its kind in Spain; the technology can simultaneously broadcast a G5 and 5G protocol frequency while sending SpaT information about the traffic lights to all  nearby vehicles. “We are delighted to contribute to the implementation of this innovative project, which reaffirms our commitment to smart urban mobility,” says Javier Aguirrre, CEO and President of Kapsch for Spain and Portugal . “Connected vehicle and autonomous driving technologies open up great opportunities. Enviromental award from the city of Vienna for Kapsch TrafficCom

The City of Vienna has honored Kapsch TrafficCom as “OekoBusiness Wien 2021”. The global provider of intelligent traffic solutions took part with its operations in Vienna's ÖKOPROFIT (Ecoprofit) environmental service program. The program aims to help companies reduce waste, raw material, and water and energy consumption at business locations in Vienna. “The Oekoprofit program is a great start on the road to become a more sustainable company,” says Juliane Höbarth, Head of KapschTrafficCom's Environmental Sustainability Program. “It helps us identify the biggest sources of emissions in our company at the Vienna operating site and understand how to reduce them.” Experts examine environmentally friendly business practices. In a series of workshops, the Ecoprofit experts from the environmental consultancy Denkstatt worked with Kapsch TrafficCom to analyze carefully selected environmental data and identify potential savings and improvement measures. “We learned that in the industrial sector, the product life cycle accounts for the largest share of CO2 emissions. That's why we focus on evaluating the CO2 footprint of our products and the emissions savings potential of our portfolio,” reports Höbarth. Kapsch TrafficCom is “OekoBusiness Vienna 2021”. The project team presented the results of the program in the form of a report and a presentation to the expert commission of Oekoprofit. Kapsch TrafficCom was then recognized by the Advisory Board for its commitment to sustainable business practices by the City of Vienna as “OekoBusiness Wien 2021”. The certificate is valid for a period of one year.

Kapsch TrafficCom – Norway Starts Free-Flow Tolling In One Of World´s Deepest Undersea Tunnels.

Jönköping/Vienna. March 8, 2021 – The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen) assigned Kapsch TrafficCom (Kapsch) in October 2020 to deliver a new Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Ryfast, Norway. Only 13 weeks after the contract signature, the system with 6 tolling points went successfully into operation on February 1, 2021. The Ryfast sub-sea tunnel system runs from the city of Stavanger to the municipality of Strand. It is one of the longest and deepest undersea road tunnels in the world, with the Ryfylke tunnel of 14.3 kilometres length and 292 meters deep. After implementing the high performance system in record time of only 13 weeks, the Kapsch MLFF G3 tolling system is now in operation since the beginning of February. “While we have installed our systems at tunnels, bridges, cities and roadways all around the world, we are proud to be part of the Ryfast project. We are very happy that we have managed to implement a reliable and high-performing system in such a short time", says Mikael Hejel, responsible Area Sales Manager for the Nordic countries. The tolling system detects and identifies all passing vehicles with video technology, which classifies the vehicles and captures their front- and rear license plates. Through microwaves, the tolling system also detects and reads AutoPass toll tags, which are linked to the vehicle’s license plate number. The information captured by the tolling system is transmitted to a back-office for further processing and invocing of the vehicle owners. “Due to that a previous tolling system could not be set into operation, we had to retender a new tolling system and allocate a tight time schedule. In addition, given the current Covid situation and closed borders, it was a challenging task both for Statens vegvesen and Kapsch to comply with the schedule. Therefore we are very pleased with the open dialogue and the transparency we have had with Kapsch TrafficCom, something which enabled the extremely short implementation time of the new tolling system”, says Kristian Rognskog, Chief Engineer of AutoPASS/Bompeng systems at Statens vegvesen.

Kapsch TrafficCom – Results for the first three quarters of 2020/21.

Highlights. Expiry of major projects, COVID-19, special effects, and internal challenges led to a decline in revenues and negative EBIT. Restructuring measures have shown the first signs of success; free cash flow is positive again. “The success of the introduced cost reduction program is already evident. While the free cash flow in Q1 was still negative at around EUR 27 million, the shortfall in Q2 fell to EUR 3 million. In the just finished Q3, we succeeded in generating a positive free cash flow of EUR 31 million. As a result, we now have a positive value of EUR 1 million after nine months,“ says Georg Kapsch, CEO of Kapsch TrafficCom. EUR 75 million of this amount is attributable to major projects that ended in the previous year: one in Germany (early termination of the implementation project by the customer due to a decision by the European Court of Justice), one in the Czech Republic (operating contract expired), and one in Bulgaria (completion of the implementation of a nation-wide toll system). In North America, the focus was on completing and restructuring existing projects. In addition, project margins had to be adjusted in the USA. This not only had negative effects on the EBIT but also, and in a large extent, on revenues. Finally, the various measures adopted to slow the spread of COVID-19 also led to a substantial decline in demand and revenues: In the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) segment, they were major drivers behind the decline of EUR 28 million or around one-third in component revenues. Implementation revenues also fell by EUR 71 million. The operating result (EBIT) went from EUR 8 million in the previous year to EUR -89 million in the current reporting period. The following special effects in particular were responsible for this development in the current financial year: Adjustment of project margins and provisions for onerous contracts, particularly for projects in North America: EUR -50 million. Impairments of goodwill: EUR -21 million (corresponds to the figure in H1 2020/21). Provision for lawsuit in the USA: EUR -8 million. Operating currency effects: EUR -11 million (net).   The financial result in the first three quarters of 2020/21 amounted to EUR -10 million (previous year: EUR -5 million). This was primarily due to the net interest loss of EUR 3 million and unrealized foreign exchange losses in the amount of EUR 5 million (net). Income taxes were positive at EUR 18 million (previous year: EUR -1 million). The result for the period attributable to equity holders of the company after nine months totaled EUR -78 million (previous year: EUR 2 million). This equates to earnings per share of EUR 6.03 (previous year: EUR 0.14). As of December 31, 2020, the net debt amounted to EUR 183 million (March 31, 2020: EUR 176 million). The equity ratio was at 18% (March 31, 2020: 25%). The balance sheet total fell to EUR 614 million (March 31, 2020: EUR 727 million). Free cash flow of EUR 1 million after three quarters was substantially better than in the comparative period of the previous year (EUR -20 million). Net CAPEX totaled EUR 2 million (previous year: EUR 9 million). And even though we are seeing the first signs of success from our efforts to make the company more efficient, focused, agile, and profitable over the long term, we still have a hard road ahead of us. The management is examining structures, processes, and expenditures throughout the entire organization. Many necessary restructuring measures have already been implemented, while others have been introduced, and a few are still outstanding. Naturally, this is often connected with additional costs in the short term. The Executive Board assumes that these will be reflected for the most part in the current financial year’s result. Therefore, it is quite possible that, with revenues of somewhat more than EUR 500 million, the negative EBIT in the 2020/21 financial year could exceed the EUR 100 million threshold. Segment results. In the first three quarters of 2020/21, 73% of revenue was generated by the ETC segment and 27% by the IMS segment. 53% of revenue was generated in the region EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), 42% in the region Americas (North-, Central- and South America), and 5% in the APAC (Asia-Pacific) region. As mentioned above, the comparative period included revenues of major projects which have come to an end in the meantime. Implementation and component revenues fell by EUR 100 million. A good portion of this decrease is a consequence of the international measures adopted to slow the spread of COVID-19. ETC-EBIT amounted to EUR -80 million (previous year: EUR 19 million). EBIT margin was at -28% (previous year: 4%). In the first three quarters 2020/21 Kapsch TrafficCom sold 7.5 million on-board units (previous year: 10.1 million).   IMS (Intelligent Mobility Solutions). Unless otherwise stated, all values in EUR million Q1-Q3 2019/20 Q1-Q3 2020/21 +/- Revenues 125.3  104.9 -16.3 % EBIT -10.9  -9.3 14.2 % EBIT margin -8.7 %  -8.9 % -0.2 %p In the first three quarters of 2020/21, segment revenues reached EUR 105 million. (-16%). The IMS EBIT was EUR -9 million and thus better than in the previous year (EUR -11 million). The now completed departure of the United Kingdom from the EU (Brexit) had no significant impact on Kapsch TrafficCom’s results. Revenues there were in the single-digit million range during the first three quarters of 2020/21.
