Kapsch TrafficCom expands New York traffic management role with two new contracts, enhancing driver safety

Duluth, Georgia, January 22, 2026 - To further improve safety and incident response times for thousands of travellers daily, Kapsch TrafficCom has begun operating two additional traffic management centres (TMCs) for the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). The two centres are located in the cities of Utica and Binghamton and serve a total of 13 municipalities and nearly one million residents in central New York State. The expansion strengthens the company's partnership with NYSDOT and brings the total number of TMCs operated by Kapsch to four out of eleven centres in the region. The contract has a base term of three years with two one-year extension options, for a total term of five years. The contract is worth USD 6.3 million. " Our primary mission is to help our partners get travellers home safely every day, and we are honored that the NYSDOT continues to trust us to do just that, " said JB Kendrick, President of Kapsch TrafficCom North America. " Our employees are the invisible partners to every motorist on the road. We are proud to welcome 20 new colleagues to the Kapsch family who will work around the clock to keep New York's roads safe and efficient ." The agreement expands the company's growing traffic management presence in the United States. Kapsch TrafficCom now manages eight centres across the country, including four in New York, two in Missouri and two in California. TMCs play an important role in monitoring NYSDOT's highways and roadways, providing authorities and drivers with round-the-clock information about potential hazards, construction, accidents and broken-down vehicles. From these control centres, Kapsch personnel act as a vital public safety interface and are in constant contact with state DOTs, bridge and tunnel authorities and emergency services. Using advanced camera and Variable Message Sign (VMS) technologies, incidents are logged in the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), which generates detailed reports on the traffic situation, mobility and transport. This proactive coordination enables the timely detection and effective resolution of incidents, contributing to a safer and smoother driving experience for all road users.
