Kapsch TrafficCom to deliver smart parking project in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

- Integration of parking data into city-wide traffic management system to improve urban mobility and parking efficiency
Santa Cruz de Tenerife / Vienna, August 25, 2026 – Kapsch TrafficCom has started the implementation of a new smart parking integration project in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain.
The project is aimed at improving parking efficiency and providing better parking spot information to residents and visitors across the city, thereby reducing city traffic and pollution. The occupation information of 24 separate parking areas spread across the central city area will be shared with the traffic management system.
“Integrating parking data into the city’s central mobility platform is an important step towards a more efficient use of existing infrastructure,” said Juan Zamakona, General Director of Kapsch TrafficCom Iberia. “By bringing real-time visibility and analytics into the city’s traffic management system, we support the city and the citizens in making more informed mobility decisions that are better for the local and regional environment.”
The project extends the capabilities of the traffic authorities by incorporating parking occupancy data into the city’s wider mobility management system. The information will be displayed in the traffic control center and used for statistical analysis of parking usage and system performance. All of this properly categorized information provides the city with significant potential to use the data for predictive purposes regarding future parking needs and various alternatives in smart mobility management.
In addition, parking availability information will be communicated to road users in real time via nine variable message panels across the city, installed and integrated into the system by Kapsch TrafficCom.
The solution receives parking space occupancy data provided by car park operators and enables traffic managers to monitor the availability and trends of parking spaces across the city. In the future, Kapsch would have the option to incorporate AI-based video analytics algorithms to automate part of the data collection process whilst also focusing the current operational model on more critical situations requiring expert decision-making at the control center.
By improving the quality of information regarding parking availability and supporting more efficient use of parking spaces, the initiative is expected to reduce congestion caused by drivers searching for available spots and enhance the overall mobility experience in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The project has a value of approximately EUR 404,000 and is scheduled for delivery in early 2027.
