Panel: For Whom the V2X Tolls; Whether by Cloud or Direct, It Tolls for Thee

Tuesday, September 29 (Conference Day 2), 7:50 AM - 8:50 AM, SCC Ballroom A

Steve joins panelists from Caltrans, the Riverside County Transportation Commission, Cohda Wireless, and Audi/VW, moderated by WSP's Jim Misener, for a discussion on what could bring V2X into electronic tolling, including the anticipated end of uninterrupted toll tag operations at 900 MHz. The panel will look at how V2X tolling might be standardized and weigh the tradeoffs between direct and cloud-based approaches.

Key Focus Topics

  • Connected Vehicle Tolling

Kapsch's connected vehicle tolling solution works across communication types, including 5G Network V2X and 5.9 GHz C-V2X (PC5) direct communication to process tolling transactions from any data source. Built to the SAE J3217 standard, it gives agencies a single, future-ready way to manage traffic and revenue without disrupting day-to-day operations, and opens the door to leaner, infrastructure-light deployments with added safety and traffic management benefits.

  • Advanced Managed and Express Lanes

Kapsch's managed and express lane solutions give agencies dynamic pricing, real-time lane management, and driver communication tools that keep traffic moving during peak demand, so drivers get a reliable premium-lane option even as conditions change.

  • Lean Video

Lean Video pairs modern tolling with a streamlined, infrastructure-light approach to vehicle detection and enforcement. Reducing the hardware needed at each site lets agencies extend tolling and enforcement coverage to new corridors at a lower cost.

  • Connected Fleet

Connected Fleet gives fleet operators and agencies a shared, real-time view of commercial vehicle movement, using vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication to support safety, routing, and compliance across the network.

  • EcoTrafiX 4.0

EcoTrafiX 4.0 is Kapsch's next-generation traffic management platform, pairing live data, analytics, and connected vehicle capabilities into a single view of the network. Built-in decision support and predictive tools help agencies reduce congestion and plan ahead.
