The CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium hosts an annual two-day international conference known as the CAR 2 CAR Forum, held at various locations across Europe.

On the first day, strategic and political plenary sessions focus on key topics such as road safety, the current status of C-ITS, and future challenges both within Europe and globally. The agenda also includes contributions from stakeholders beyond the automotive sector, insights into major R&D initiatives and projects, and discussions on critical issues that require further attention.

The second day is dedicated to the Technical Organisation of the Consortium. Working Groups present detailed updates on selected topics, including technical progress, interim results, and ongoing developments. Additionally, they highlight the challenges that must be addressed to achieve the overarching goals of enhancing road safety and traffic efficiency through anticipatory driving – enabled by shared information, perception, and intent to support cooperation and automation.

Roadworks warning

Kapsch TrafficCom and Autobahn GmbH des Bundes have completed the first and second phase of the project to increase safety on motorways using C-ITS. A total of 1,000 ITS Roadside Stations (IRS) from Kapsch TrafficCom and other suppliers have been mounted on mobile barrier panels and put into operation over the past few months. The devices send warning messages to approaching vehicles that they are approaching a construction zone. This reduces the risk of accidents in dangerous construction zones, as drivers are alerted to the construction sites earlier.

Spain's first networked corridor

Verkehrsampel mit grünem Lichtsignal

Kapsch TrafficCom recent pilot project in Vitoria, Spain aims to enhance urban mobility by providing transit signal priority to municipal buses through advanced connected vehicle technology. This innovation improves bus speeds, allowing for shorter intervals and thus bringing Vitoria citizens and tourists to their destinations more reliably and faster, ensuring a more comfortable public transit experience.
