Kapsch is one of Austria's most successful global technology companies. With its comprehensive ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) portfolio, Kapsch is actively addressing the challenges of the present and the future with intelligent mobility solutions in a wide range of application areas. As a family-owned company founded in 1892 and headquartered in Vienna, Kapsch can look back on 130 years of experience with the future.

We are looking for a motivated Junior Systems Engineer in Austin, TX to support the design, integration, testing, and delivery of technical solutions across hardware and software systems.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their engineering career who wants to gain hands-on experience with complex, real-world projects while learning from experienced technical teams. In this role, you’ll be close to the full project lifecycle — from planning and system design through deployment, validation, and operational handoff. You’ll be a strong fit if you enjoy understanding how different technical pieces come together, solving problems hands-on, and contributing to systems that need to perform reliably in the field. We’re looking for someone who is detail-oriented, curious, and eager to build their systems engineering knowledge in a collaborative project environment.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Take technical ownership of specific parts of the solution, such as a subsystem, product, or workstream, within the overall project scope.
  • Support engineering projects from planning through deployment, helping ensure a smooth transition into operations.
  • Contribute to system design, integration, and testing activities across both internal and third-party systems.
  • Help define system requirements, performance metrics, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with senior engineers.
  • Participate in technical reviews, troubleshooting sessions, system validation, and problem-solving activities.
  • Support the development and delivery of hardware and software solutions tailored to customer projects.
  • Prepare and maintain key technical documentation, including installation guides, design documents, test documentation, and project deliverables.
  • Support system integration and testing during FAT, SIT, SAT, and OAT phases.
  • Work closely with Project Management, Operations, Field Services, Software Developers, and Mobilization teams to keep projects aligned, practical, and executable.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders and, when needed, support customer-facing technical discussions or presentations.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Networking and IT experience, CCNA, CCNP, or other networking certifications.
  • Internship, academic project, or early professional experience with hardware, software, or systems integration is a plus.
  • Familiarity with system documentation, technical troubleshooting, or engineering processes is preferred.
  • Exposure to system modeling tools, testing methodologies, or integration concepts is a plus.

What Will Make You Successful:

You’ll be successful in this role if you bring curiosity, ownership, and the motivation to keep building your technical understanding over time. We don’t expect you to have all the answers from day one — what matters most is your ability to ask, learn, try, and improve.

You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Take initiative to understand how systems work, including how your work connects to the broader solution.
  • Ask thoughtful questions early when something is unclear.
  • Learn from feedback, mentorship, and hands-on experience.
  • Take responsibility for your work and follow through on commitments, with guidance and support.
  • Communicate clearly about progress, open questions, risks, and when support is needed.
  • Approach problems in a structured way and develop confidence working through technical complexity.
  • Stay open to stepping outside your comfort zone to build broader context and capability.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Exposure or experience in transportation systems, tolling, or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
  • Exposure to project coordination or technical documentation.
  • FE or EIT status with interest in pursuing professional engineering certifications in the future.

What we Offer:

  • The opportunity to solve complex problems that improve the daily lives of people around the world
  • Opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies in a high-growth industry
  • Career growth, stability, and the opportunity to develop within a global organization.
  • Casual work environment with flexible work hours and hybrid work schedule with two days in office
  • A competitive compensation range of $68,000–$105,000, based on location, experience, skills, internal equity, and market data.
  • A full benefits package, including unlimited paid time off, 11 paid holidays, 401(k), a no-cost medical insurance option for employees and eligible dependents, and an FSA option.
