A need to unifying & modernizing traffic signal control

Trafikverket operated a national centralized system managing 360 traffic signals, but the aging ÖTS2 platform required a critical upgrade to improve efficiency, reliability, and integration with existing infrastructure. The goal was to replace fragmented, region-specific systems with a uniform, scalable solution that enables real-time coordination, faster response times, and full compliance with the RSMP protocol – ensuring unified operations across all regions, now and into the future.

Delivering a state-of-the-art, Nordic-standard solution

Kapasch TrafficCom delivered a future-ready upgrade through its EcoTrafiX™ Command platform – a centralized traffic management solution tailored for full RSMP compatibility. The contract includes four years of preventive maintenance. The ÖTS3 initiative consists of three main phases:​

  • Delivery and testing: Comprehensive project management, installation, commissioning, and integration with Trafikverket’s operational systems.​
  • Implementation: System configuration and deployment across all traffic signal installations, ensuring operational readiness.​
  • Maintenance and support: Ongoing system operations, preventive maintenance, and technical support for a minimum of four years, with options to extend.
