Role Summary

The Traffic Operations Supervisor is responsible for planning, directing and supervising the day-to-day activities of the Traffic Operations Center (TOC). This position ensures the safe and efficient flow of vehicular traffic on the 405 Express Lanes. The TOC Supervisor will supervise a team of traffic operations staff, monitor traffic patterns and analyze data to make informed decisions to report to the client, coordinate with other departments to resolve outages with roadside equipment, maintain accurate records (to include logs) of daily activities, and assist the TOC Manager with the development of training / training material.

NOTE: TOC is a 24/7/365 operation critical to maintain road safety. The shift will rotate between days and nights, Monday – Friday. There is a rotating on-call component that will require the candidate to be available to work through issues should they arise on weekends.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the 24/7 operations of the TOC, including traffic monitoring, incident detection, and response coordination.

  • Requires outstanding communications with team, client, and senior management

  • Regular participation in Operations Business Unit’s staff meetings and training

  • Establish and update TOC specific operational policies

  • Ensure the continuous functionality of traffic management systems, including cameras, sensors, variable message signs, and communication networks.

  • Communicate with the Transportation Authority, Department of Transportation, law enforcement, local incident management and emergency service partners

  • Monitor congestion trends using transportation technology

  • TOC Performance Measurement reporting

  • Interface with client to provide timely resolutions for all TOC issues

  • Analyze traffic patterns and operational data to identify trends and recommend improvements.

  • Make certain all employees have the required resources to perform job duties

  • Act as a backup for all positions on the TOC Team to ensure appropriate coverage for all shifts

What we are looking for.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent to include 4 years relevant experience as a leader and/or specialized skills to offset the educational requirement
  • Experience with operations and managing positive client relationships by having effective communication
  • Strong ability for data analysis. and proficient with Microsoft Office applications – Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerBI
  • Should be familiar with basic computer functionalities to include Microsoft Office applications, PC Computer navigation, and possess the ability to adapt to possible changing situations with the TOC.
  • Knowledge of emergency management protocols and practice
  • Availability to respond to emergencies or critical incidents outside of regular business hours..
  • Strong knowledge of traffic control systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and background in traffic management, tolling operations, law enforcement, ITS, EMS, or similar industry preferred but not required.
