The Mobilitet 2023 conference, organized by The Institute of Transport Economics (TØI) is Norway's largest research conference in mobility and transport and is becoming the central meeting place for dissemination of research and dialogue between researchers, politicians, business and public administration to find good solutions to the mobility challenges of the future.

This year, around 500 participants and 20 key players in the transport sector which are collaborating on the event and program, will discuss the main theme of conference “Change, Needs and Smart Solutions” as well as other pressing challenges of conference.

Mikael Hejel, Area Sales Manager EMENA, is invited to speak on Monday March 27, 2023 from 1:30 till 2:30 p.m. in the panel Road use tax and tolls – what happens?

The Norwegian government is considering introducing a GNSS-based road use charging that charges vehicle owners based on how many kilometers they drive, instead of collecting fuel taxes or charging toll road fees. To achieve this, a new technology is needed.

Kapsch TrafficCom partnered  in 2021 with local ITS provider Aventi Intelligent Communication and realized a proof of concept project “JuztDrive” in Norway to collect GNSS-based road use charges using smartphones. Within this project, also some additional objectives are considered, such as how to combine kilometer pricing with the delivery of traffic messages and advanced safety warnings to drivers

Kapsch TrafficCom invests heavily in R&D, ensuring that our technology portfolio is always ahead of current market needs. The latest generation of tolling technology is transforming the way roads are being used and paid for. Authorities and concessionaires can deliver more value for end users than ever before, while maximizing their operating efficiency.

INTERVIEW: Road user charging – how will we get there? The number of vehicles on our roads shows continued growth, while the cost of maintaining road infrastructure is increasing. At the same time, improving fuel efficiency and EV uptake mean that fuel tax revenues are falling. Charging vehicles per mile they drive (road user charging, or RUC) is widely seen as the best solution. But, as Gabriel Makki, tolling expert at Kapsch TrafficCom discusses here, challenges to implementation still remain.

Kapsch TrafficCom is driving the transformations in tolling. Find out more in our new folder:
