How do I apply for a position at Kapsch TrafficCom?
The fastest way to apply is via the portal. This is where you can create a personal profile and attach all documents for your application.

- Now you can add a photo, certificates and other important documents as a PDF file.
- Submit your application. You will receive a confirmation e-mail stating that your submission was successful. Please allow some time for the application to be processed.

Is it possible to apply for more than one position at the same time?
Yes, of course. We are happy if we were able to arouse the interest of our applicants in different areas. You are also welcome to submit an unsolicited application outlining your motivation and expectations.
What documents should I include in my application?
What matters most to us is your motivation! Please send us a strong cover letter, a detailed and clear CV, copies of any diplomas, certificates and recommendations, as well as information on all training, project work, and theses. Please note: The more comprehensive the information we receive from you, the better we can classify and process your application.
How can I make sure that my online application was submitted successfully?
If the submission was successful, you will receive an e-mail confirmation.
Is it possible to edit my application or exchange the documents after having submitted them?
Yes, this is possible at any time via your applicant account.
What does the selection process look like, and how long should I expect to wait before I hear back?
The Kapsch TrafficCom HR team reviews your application and calls in experts from other departments if necessary. Please be patient, as this could take two to three weeks. Depending on the position and requirements, applicants may also be asked to fill out an additional application form or visit an assessment center before a decision can be made. If this is the case, the process might take longer. In any case, you will receive a response in writing.
How do I get invited to a job interview, and what will the interview look like?
If your application aroused our interest, you will receive an invitation to an interview, which will be attended by a member of the HR team and the head of the respective specialist department. As a rule of thumb, the interview takes about an hour. The purpose of the interview is to find out more about you as a person and your knowledge and skills. At the same time, you will get the opportunity to get to know us as well.
I am currently living abroad. Is it possible to do the job interview online?
Yes, if you are currently not living in the country where you applied for a position, we can do the initial job interview over the phone or on MS Teams.

Will my application be treated with confidentiality?
Yes, of course. We will not contact anyone outside the Kapsch Group/ Kapsch TrafficCom without your consent. Even within the company, your application will only be forwarded for the purpose of checking for possible employment opportunities.

Are there any trial days for the apprenticeships offered at Kapsch TrafficCom?
For the technical apprenticeships in IT systems engineering "trial days" are held every spring and fall.

When is the best time to apply?
We recommend you apply from November to February. Applicants with the best applications will be invited to an aptitude test at the beginning of the new year.
Tip: Make sure you pay particular attention to the integrity of your application documents. These include your CV, a letter of motivation (for the apprenticeship you want to complete), as well as the last two school reports (depending on the date of application: school report and annual report or annual report and school report)
I have applied for an apprenticeship at Kapsch TrafficCom. How long will I have to wait for an answer?
If your application impressed us, we will ask you to take an aptitude test. If you pass this test, you will be invited to a job interview. Normally, you will hear back from us within a few weeks. However, at the latest, you will know if you were accepted for an apprenticeship in spring – that's when we will have filled all apprenticeship positions.
What will the interview be about?
You will be invited to come to the job interview with one or both of your parents or legal guardians. Typical topics of conversation include:

In which subject areas should I prepare for the aptitude test?
Preparation tips:
- for the technical apprenticeships: mathematics, German, and natural sciences
- for the commercial apprenticeship: German, but also mathematics, as you will work together with engineers
Please note: Kapsch TrafficCom is an internationally acting company, so good English skills are important for both apprenticeships.
In which language will the test be held?
For the most part, the test will be in German. However, commercial apprentices will also have to do a part in English. Your knowledge of grammar will be tested, and a few sentences have to be translated.
How long does it take to complete an apprenticeship?
The commercial apprenticeship takes three years to complete and the apprenticeship in IT systems engineering takes four years.
Is it possible to join an apprenticeship in the second year?
As we also offer a two-year basic training program, we only allow apprenticeships starting from the very beginning.
When does training start?
Every year on September 1.

How and where will I spend my training time?
Information technology
During training, apprentices will attend vocational school in Vienna for around ten weeks per apprenticeship year. Lessons are held either as intensive courses lasting several days in a row and/or on individual days of every work week.
In the first two years, the Kapsch training workshop serves as the training location and your entry point into the technical world of information technology and mechatronics. You will be provided with the theoretical and practical knowledge that equips you for the coming two years of training. During the apprenticeship, you will also have the opportunity to take part in additional training courses – for instance, in English or social skills. Preparation for the final apprenticeship examination takes place at the training workshop as well.
Apprenticeship as an industrial clerk
The apprenticeship takes three years to complete and mainly consists of on-the-job training at the company and theoretical lessons held at vocational school. You will attend vocational school for ten weeks per apprenticeship year on individual days of every work week. At the beginning of the apprenticeship period, apprentices spend two weeks in the Kapsch training workshop where they learn more about EDP, among other things. You will move between departments several times during your training. This allows you to gather experience in various areas, as well as discover the activities and fields of work that you enjoy most.
A contact person in the apprenticeship department is available to apprentices at all times. This person provides support in all matters they need help with, from the very first day through to their final exam.
Is it possible to take the Berufsmatura (combined apprenticeship and Matura, an ‘A’ level equivalent qualification) during my apprenticeship?
Yes, Kapsch TrafficCom will actively support apprentices pursuing a Berufsmatura.
How are my working hours organized?
Weekly working hours amount to 38.5 hours. Under-18-year-olds may not work more than nine hours in one day.
How many weeks of vacation am I entitled to?
Apprentices are entitled to 25 working days of vacation per year. Dates must be coordinated with the respective supervisor.
What will my salary be?
As of May 1, 2022, taking an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk, IT systems engineer you will earn the salaries listed below. Whether you hold an ‘A’ level equivalent qualification (Matura) also affects your salary.
- 1st year of apprenticeship: EUR 1,105.00 gross without Matura and EUR 1,381.25 with Matura (14 payments per year)
- 2nd year of apprenticeship: EUR 1,381.25 gross without Matura and EUR 1,795.63 with Matura (14 payments per year)
- 3rd year of apprenticeship: EUR 1,657.50 gross without Matura and EUR 2,071.88 with Matura (14 payments per year)
- 4th year of apprenticeship: EUR 2,154.75 gross without Matura and EUR 2,289.43 with Matura (14 payments per year)
Will I receive a bonus payment for good performance?
Bonus payments for apprentices:
Assessments at Kapsch TrafficCom take place every six months. In the first year of your apprenticeship and depending on the outcome of the assessment, you can get up to 20 hours of free time. In the following half-year periods, a bonus of up to EUR 300.00 is possible – again, depending on the outcome of the assessment.
Of course, Kapsch TrafficCom also rewards good performance at vocational school. The basis for this is your annual report. For outstanding performance, you'll receive a bonus of EUR 200.00, and for good performance EUR 70.00.
Kapsch TrafficCom apprentices with excellent success at school in the second and third or third and fourth apprenticeship year (depending on the apprenticeship) receive an award from the City School Board. The reward for this achievement is a bonus payment of EUR 400.00.
A final apprenticeship examination with excellent results is rewarded with EUR 400.00 as well.
Kapsch TrafficCom also rewards you with a bonus for a first, second or third place in a vocational competition.
Possible bonuses: EUR 100.00, EUR 70.00 or EUR 50.00.
Can I do some of my training abroad?
Yes, under certain circumstances, an internship abroad is possible for apprentices as part of the international exchange of skilled workers.
Prerequisites for an internship abroad:
- apprentices are in their second year of the apprenticeship or later
- minimum age: 16 years
- good performance in school, good command of English
What if I don’t like the profession I chose in the beginning? Is it possible to switch to another apprenticeship within the company?
Although it is possible, we only allow this in certain cases and under certain circumstances. It is possible to change from one technical profession to another. However, it is not possible to change from a technical to a commercial occupation, as hardly any training periods or contents can be credited in this case.
What are my career prospects at Kapsch TrafficCom?
Once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship, there are many career paths open to you at a national and international level. If you actively contribute your skills and talents, professional development is possible at all times. There are wide-ranging fields of work and extensive possibilities available to you at Kapsch TrafficCom.

Will there be any financial assistance with the cost of using public transportation?
As an apprentice, you are given an apprentice free travel card by the transport operators.
Questions about the Kapsch TrafficCom's Graduate Trainee Program
When should I apply for the Graduate Trainee Program, and when does it start?
The Graduate Trainee Program is advertised every year in April and starts at the beginning of October.
How many trainees are accepted per year?
Two to six trainees – the number varies depending on demand.
How long does it take to complete the Graduate Trainee Program?
Two years.
At how many departments will I work, and how long does each assignment last?
Four departments, where you will work six months each.
Are the departments at which I will work during the Graduate Trainee Program predefined?
The first department is predefined. The other three can be chosen by the trainees themselves in agreement with the respective departments. At least one of the stages must be completed abroad at one of the many international Kapsch branch offices.
What qualifications are required?
During your master studies/ after master's degree in business or engineering.
Questions about internships for university students at Kapsch TrafficCom
Which fields of education are particularly in demand at Kapsch TrafficCom when it comes to internships?
The majority of internships are available in the field of engineering, so we are most interested in interns studying:
computer science, information technology, industrial engineering, electrical engineering with computer and network technology, and telecommunications.
When can I apply for an internship?
Generally speaking, all year round. For a summer internship, we recommend applying at the beginning of the year.
Does Kapsch TrafficCom also offer internships abroad for students?
Yes. Under certain circumstances, you will have the possibility to do your internship abroad as part of the IAESTE exchange program.
