We have an incredible opportunity for an experienced Systems Administrator to join our team in Melbourne on a full-time permanent basis. The successful candidate will manage complex and exciting projects at the cutting edge of technology in the transport industry space.

Your responsibilities:

  • Act as the Level 2 escalation point for infrastructure troubleshooting, diagnostics, and remediation.

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for security hardening, vulnerability management, baselining cycles, and commercial software upgrades.

  • Manage and maintain servers, virtual machines, hypervisors, storage systems, networks, and supporting software.

  • Configure and maintain IT hardware infrastructure across multiple operational locations.

  • Ensure systems remain aligned with cybersecurity requirements, patching schedules, and certificate management processes.

  • Define, maintain, and update system manuals, configuration baselines, and operational procedures.

  • Report on system performance, infrastructure status, and security updates for operational management review.

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware or software failures; coordinate with internal teams and external vendors as required.

  • Participate in planning, establishment and scoping of new system implementations or operational transitions.

  • Manage support renewals, licences, certificates, and third-party vendor engagements.

  • Promote best practices and identify technical and operational improvement opportunities.

  • Provide occasional after-hours support to assist RSS teams with urgent or critical incidents that require escalation.

  • Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call roster to maintain operational readiness when needed.

Your profile:

  • Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar (preferred).

  • 5+ years’ experience in an infrastructure, systems administration, or technical operations role.

  • Hands-on experience configuring, managing and supporting:

    • Windows Servers

    • Virtualisation platforms (e.g., VMware)

    • Networks (LAN/WAN, firewalls, VLANs, routing/security concepts)

    • Backup, recovery and monitoring systems

  • Understanding of security fundamentals, vulnerability management, patching and certificates.

  • Experience in high-availability or operationally critical environments (desired).

  • ITIL Foundation or relevant vendor certifications (preferred).

  • Strong problem-solving ability and the capacity to work independently in a live operational environment.

  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotational roster and respond after hours when needed.
