Traffic Management Center (TMC) Operator
Location: Gateway Guide Traffic Management Center – 14301 S. Outer Forty Rd., Chesterfield, MO 63017
Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week) | PM Shift (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM) | Tuesday – Saturday or Sunday - Thursday
Starting Pay: $19.00/hour
About the Opportunity
Kapsch TrafficCom is seeking highly motivated, detail-oriented individuals to join our team at the Gateway Guide Traffic Management Center. This is an excellent opportunity to launch a rewarding career in the growing field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). As a TMC Operator, you’ll play a critical role in keeping Missouri’s roadways safe and efficient by monitoring traffic conditions, coordinating incident response, and delivering timely information to the public.
Position Summary
TMC Operators are responsible for using ITS technologies across a multi-monitor computer workstation to monitor roadway conditions, detect incidents, and coordinate with first responders. This role also includes disseminating traveler information, managing real-time data, and providing outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate ITS technologies including cameras, sensors, and information systems to monitor traffic conditions.
- Identify and track incidents and roadway issues using CCTV, patrol and police reports, and other data sources.
- Coordinate and dispatch responses to roadway incidents via radio, phone, or internal systems.
- Input and manage data in real-time systems, maintaining accurate records of incidents and response actions.
- Assist with compiling traffic and incident data for reports including travel time, incident summaries, and equipment status.
- Provide traveler information to the public through variable message signs, websites, and partner agencies.
- Work collaboratively with teammates, first responders, and other stakeholders to manage daily operations.
Qualifications
While no previous TMC or ITS experience is required, successful candidates should demonstrate:
- Proficiency with Windows-based systems and comfort working on a multi-monitor workstation.
- Ability to type quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong working knowledge of St. Louis-area roadways and geography.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to prioritize and respond to real-time events with urgency and accuracy.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to work holidays and weekends as part of a 24/7/365 operation.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or GED required.
- College degree or related work experience in transportation, public safety, dispatch, or customer service preferred.
