Which apprenticeships does Kapsch TrafficCom offer?

The following apprenticeships are available at Kapsch TrafficCom:

Are there trial days for the apprenticeships offered at Kapsch TrafficCom?

For the technical apprenticeships in IT systems engineering, "trial days" are held every spring and fall.

The exact dates of this year's trial days can be found here.

Please note: As the number of participants per trial day is limited, it is necessary to register in advance.

Remember to provide a letter of approval from your school. It's a prerequisite for successful registration.

When is the best time to apply?

We recommend that you apply between November and February. The best applicants will be invited to an aptitude test at the beginning of the new year.

Tip: Pay particular attention to the integrity of your application documents. This includes your CV, a letter of motivation (for the desired apprenticeship) and your last two school reports (depending on the date of application: school report and annual report or annual report and school report).

I have applied for an apprenticeship with Kapsch TrafficCom. How long will I have to wait for an answer?

If your application has convinced us, we will ask you to take an aptitude test. If you pass the test, you will be invited to an interview. You will usually hear from us within a few weeks. However, you won't know if you've been accepted for an apprenticeship until the spring at the latest - that's when we fill all our apprenticeships.

What will the interview be about?

You will be invited to come to the interview with one or both of your parents or guardians. Typical interview topics include

In which subject areas should I prepare for the aptitude test?

Preparation tips:

  • For technical apprenticeships: mathematics, German and natural sciences
  • For commercial apprenticeships: German, but also mathematics, as you will be working together with engineers.

Please note: Kapsch TrafficCom is an international company, so good English skills are important for both apprenticeships.

What language will the test be in?

Most of the test will be in German. However, commercial trainees will have to do some of the test in English. Your grammar knowledge will be tested and you will have to translate some sentences.

How long does the apprenticeship take?

The commercial apprenticeship lasts three years and the IT systems engineer apprenticeship lasts four years.

Is it possible to join the apprenticeship in the second year?

Since we also offer a two-year basic training program, we only allow apprentices to join from the beginning.

When does the training start?

Every year on September 1st.

How and where will I spend my training time?

Information Technology Apprenticeship
During training, apprentices attend vocational school in Vienna for approximately ten weeks per apprenticeship year. Classes are held either as intensive courses lasting several days in a row and/or on individual days during the working week.

During the first two years, the Kapsch training workshop serves as the training location and your entry point into the technical world of information technology and mechatronics. You will gain theoretical and practical knowledge that will prepare you for the next two years of training. During your apprenticeship, you will also have the opportunity to participate in additional training courses, such as English or social skills. Preparation for the final apprenticeship exam also takes place in the training workshop.

Industrial Clerk Apprenticeship
The apprenticeship lasts three years and consists mainly of on-the-job training in the company and theoretical classes in vocational school. You will attend vocational school for ten weeks per apprenticeship year, on individual days of each working week. At the beginning of the apprenticeship, apprentices spend two weeks in the Kapsch training workshop, where they learn more about IT, among other things. During your apprenticeship, you will change departments several times. This allows you to gain experience in different areas and to discover the activities and fields of work that you enjoy most.

A contact person in the training department is always available to trainees. This person will help you with anything you need, from your first day to your final exam.

Is it possible to take the Berufsmatura (combined apprenticeship and Matura, an ‘A’ level equivalent qualification) during my apprenticeship?

Yes, Kapsch TrafficCom will actively support apprentices who wish to take the Berufsmatura.

What are my working hours?

The working week is 38.5 hours. Apprentices under the age of 18 may not work more than nine hours in one day.

How many weeks of vacation am I entitled to?

Apprentices are entitled to 25 working days of vacation per year. Dates must be arranged with your supervisor.

What will my salary be?

As of May 1, 2024, you will earn the salaries listed below if you complete an apprenticeship as an Industrial Clerk, IT Systems Engineer. Your salary will also depend on whether you have a Matura or equivalent qualification.

  • 1st year of apprenticeship: EUR 1,187.88 gross without Matura and EUR 1,484.84  with Matura (14 payments per year)
  • 2nd year of apprenticeship: EUR 1,484.84 gross without Matura and EUR 1,930.30 with Matura (14 payments per year)
  • 3rd year of apprenticeship: EUR 1,781.81 gross without Matura and EUR 2,227.27 with Matura (14 payments per year)
  • 4th year of apprenticeship: EUR 2,316.36 gross without Matura and EUR 2,461.13 with Matura (14 payments per year)

Will I receive a bonus for good performance?

Bonus payments for apprentices:

Assessments at Kapsch TrafficCom take place every six months. In the first year of your apprenticeship, you can receive up to 20 hours of time off, depending on the outcome of the assessment. In the following six-month periods, a bonus of up to EUR 300.00 is possible - again depending on the result of the assessment.

Of course, Kapsch TrafficCom also rewards good performance at vocational school. This is based on your annual report. You'll receive a bonus of EUR 200.00 for outstanding performance and EUR 70.00 for good performance.

v apprentices who achieve excellent results in school in the second and third or third and fourth year (depending on the apprenticeship) will receive an award from the municipal school board. The reward for this achievement is a bonus payment of EUR 400.00.

A final apprenticeship examination with excellent results is also rewarded with EUR 400.00.

Kapsch TrafficCom also rewards you with a bonus for a first, second or third place in a vocational competition.

Possible bonuses: EUR 100.00, EUR 70.00 or EUR 50.00.

Can I do an internship abroad during my training?

Yes, under certain circumstances, it is possible to do an internship abroad as part of the international exchange of skilled workers.

Requirements for an internship abroad:

  • Apprentices must be in their second year of apprenticeship or later.
  • Minimum age: 16 years
  • Good performance in school, good command of English

What happens if I don't like my first choice of apprenticeship? Is it possible to change to another apprenticeship within the company?

Although it is possible, we only allow it in certain cases and under certain circumstances. It is possible to change from one technical profession to another. However, it is not possible to change from a technical profession to a commercial profession, as hardly any training time or content can be credited in this case.

What are my career opportunities at Kapsch TrafficCom?

Once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship, there are many career paths open to you, both nationally and internationally. Is there any financial assistance with the cost of using public transportation?

As an apprentice, you will receive a free apprentice pass from the transportation companies.

Internships for university students

Which fields of study are most in demand for internships at Kapsch TrafficCom?

The majority of our internships are in the engineering field, so we are most interested in interns who are studying one of the following:

Computer Science, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering with Computer and Network Technology and Telecommunications.

When can I apply for an internship?

In general, all year round. For summer internships, we recommend applying at the beginning of the year.

Does Kapsch TrafficCom offer internships abroad for students?

Yes, we do. Under certain circumstances, you may have the opportunity to complete your internship abroad as part of the IAESTE exchange program.
