Vienna, August 4, 2015 – Kapsch BusinessCom has been a Cisco Gold Certified Partner for the past 15 years. The two companies’ joint projects in Austria also are meeting with international acclaim. For example, Kapsch used technology from Cisco to implement an IPv6-based solution for smart energy management at
At Cisco’s global meeting held recently in Las Vegas, Kapsch was the winner of the sought-after Solution Innovation Partner of the Year award. The project to develop the world’s first smart metering infrastructure based on IPv6 PLC Mesh Communication is considered at Cisco to be one of its five most important lighthouse projects worldwide. The new architecture for intelligent electricity meters uses open standard technology, meaning that additional services – particularly smart grids – can be added later. The test communication network was set up in less than one year, and other European countries have already shown interest in implementing similar solutions.
Along with generalists, the IT sector also needs experts who have acquired deep knowledge of specific systems. Wilhelm ';Putz from Kapsch is one of those experts. The Mondi group’s new corporate headquarters has embraced the concept of the New World of Work, which involves project work, sometimes even in cross-location teams. This requires an IT infrastructure that is flexible enough to handle rapidly changing requirements while maintaining the highest possible level of data security. Working together with Mondi, Kapsch developed and launched a concept that can be put into practice at other locations inexpensively and quickly and which established the technical basis for implementing group-wide security policies. Cisco supplied the technology for the end-to-end security architecture, which integrates all equipment that is connected either by cable or wirelessly. The architecture uses Cisco TrustSec in combination with the Cisco Identity Service Engine to allocate all elements to logical groups with respect to the applicable security policies. This method is considerably easier to handle than traditional approaches, which work with lists of IP addresses.
