Tyrol Air Ambulance flies patients home safely – IT operated by Kapsch

Vienna/Innsbruck, February 11, 2015 – More than 3,000 injured or sick patients are flown home each year by Tyrol Air Ambulance. There, they can receive the best possible medical care and the support of their relatives. Kapsch BusinessCom provides this service with a powerful IT solution in the background. In less than six months, the entire IT operations of Tyrol Air Ambulance were outsourced to Kapsch. Since the end of November, the new, modernized infrastructure is running in a certified data center operated by Kapsch.

At the outset of 2014, Tyrol Air Ambulance was faced with the decision whether to expand its internal IT resources or outsource the activity to a service provider in the position to render highly specialized data center services at top quality. To prepare and carry out patient transports, the medical staff needs access to very sensitive data. Kapsch convinced the air ambulance operator with its professional expertise and personnel, as well as its high-security earthDATAsafe data center. In the middle of last year, the contract was awarded, and in July the transition began. Since November, the new solution has been up and running. All of the migration activities were completed without the employees noticing it and without any impact on operations. “For many years now, we have been implementing IT and network solutions for companies of virtually every size and in every sector. We were able to use our experience in planning this outsourcing project,” says Günter Rauter, Branch Manager for Tyrol at Kapsch BusinessCom.

State-of-the-art holistic concept

All of the individual IT solutions were integrated in a holistic concept as part of the joint planning efforts. This includes the entire desktop environment, which now runs for approximately 90 employees as part of Kapsch’s Managed Workspace solution, in addition to the e-mail infrastructure, which was migrated to MS Exchange. Special clients used by Tyrol Air Ambulance are being replaced gradually. Through client virtualization and easily administered standard processes, new applications can be quickly integrated in the IT environment and provided to individual employees. After developing the new network environment, Kapsch is also responsible for operating and servicing the solution and hardware used. “For almost 40 years, we have been providing ambulance flights with the best possible medical assistance. Efficient and secure data transfer is essential to our service. Thanks to the support of Kapsch, we can provide our patients with the best possible care,” comments Manfred Helldoppler, one of the managing directors at Tyrol Air Ambulance, regarding his company’s relationship with its new partner.

Tyrol Air Ambulance – In the summer of 1976, the first injured person was flown home by Tyrol Air Ambulance (at the time still Tyrolean Air Ambulance). Since then, some 3,000 patients rely on the know-how of Tyrol Air Ambulance every year. As early as 1980, the first multiple patient transports of injured winter vacationers was offered to Benelux; at the end of the 1990s, these multiple patient transports were expanded to include the Mediterranean region throughout the year. In 2013, the company was recognized by the ITIJ with the Air Ambulance Provider of the Year award as the world’s leading Air Ambulance. Tyrol Air Ambulance is a subsidiary of Welcome Air, which is owned entirely by Remi Finanz- und Verwaltungs AG and operates globally.
