RDN.terminals

Maximising the performance and availability of railway communications requires all network components to be seamlessly integrated, from core, access and transmission infrastructure, to on-board and handheld terminals.

To help our clients optimise their networks, Kapsch CarrierCom added own terminals to our portfolio of GSM-R infrastructure solutions in 2013, making us a truly end-to-end solution provider for railway operators. Our portfolio of terminals offers native integration with our GSM-R infrastructure portfolio, including our RDN.core, RDN.access, RDN.transmission solutions and RDN.management tools, giving railway operators guaranteed interoperability and a single point of contact for all their communications needs.

Cab radios

Kapsch CarrierCom cab radios provide all the functionality needed to keep trains and passengers safe and to support new, value-added applications.

With fully redundant radio modules and antenna systems and unrivalled interference blocking features, our cab radios offer the mission-critical reliability railway operators need. They can choose between rack-mounted radios or smaller-format devices, helping them to overcome space constraints on board.

Kapsch CarrierCom offers two types of cab radio to meet operators’ specific communications requirements:

  • The RDN.voice&data cab radio, which supports high-speed, fully redundant voice and data communications between drivers and dispatchers.
  • The RDN.EDOR, which supports reliable data communications for European Train Control System (ETCS) signalling applications.


Handhelds

General Purpose Handheld
The General Purpose Handheld (GPH) works in the GSM and GSM-R frequency bands, supporting all ASCI features and specified EIRENE functions. The GPH is used as the standard mobile device by non-operational staff.

Operational Purpose Handheld
The Operational Purpose Handheld (OPH) is a GSM-R handheld designed for railway staff working in extreme conditions. It is specifically designed to withstand shocks and vibration, as well as a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions.

Operational Purpose Handheld Shunting
The Operational Purpose Handheld Shunting (OPS) is based on the OPH, however, it is specifically designed for the needs of shunting operation. The OPS is equipped with software supporting shunting functionality such as link assurance signal transmission.



Dispatcher solutions

Our certified dispatcher terminals provide a proven, user-friendly interface for handling and placing railway-related calls. Fixed terminal switch(es), together with the dispatcher terminals, build the dispatcher solution and control interfaces to the GSM-R network and other railway systems.
