Next generation of mission-critical networks

The first step is to agree the future standards, and discussions have been underway for some time. However, it will probably be another year or two before the standards are finalized.
Many different organizations are feeding into this work, which must address all aspects of mission-critical communications, from functional system requirements and features to voice and data standards, as well as next-generation mission-critical communications applications.

Using standard technologies with enhanced throughput and safety and security functionalities, the mission-critical systems will take advantage of recent developments in the communications sector to support the current and future needs of railway and  public transport operators, public authorities, utilities and airports. With the involvement of so many stakeholders, collaboration in each field of next generation mission-critical technology will be critical to success. We’re involved on many levels, collaborating on an international and European level, testing in our labs and with our clients and partners.

Supporting ETCS over GPRS

Kapsch CarrierCom is actively working with major railway operators for the introduction of ETCS level 2 over GPRS, which will dramatically increase available bandwidth for voice and data services and support more trains concurrently.

Kapsch CarrierCom is participating in the European Rail Joint technology program Shift2Rail, which aims to drive innovation in the rail sector. Specifically Kapsch CarrierCom is helping to specify and develop the future adaptable communication system for all railways, zero on-site maintenance and cybersecurity. Our efforts will help operators to manage more traffic on their networks, and to raise the competitiveness of European railway solutions and products globally.
