Kapsch BusinessCom takes over operation of KEBA data center services

International automation expert KEBA, headquartered in Linz, has chosen Kapsch BusinessCom as the outsourcing partner for part of its IT operations

Vienna, May 4, 2017 – Kapsch BusinessCom has won Upper Austrian automation expert KEBA as a new outsourcing customer. As a result, Kapsch will be responsible for operating part of the company’s IT infrastructure. The contract runs since 2016 over five years to mid-2021. For almost 50 years, KEBA AG, headquartered in Linz, has been developing and producing innovative, high-quality, complete automation solutions for the industry, banking, service, and energy sectors. With almost 1,000 employees worldwide, the company had already been outsourcing its IT to a partner for some time prior to the decision to retender the contract in 2015.

Seamless changeover

“We finally won out against the seven providers who were invited to tender, securing the contract to outsource KEBA’s IT infrastructure,” says a delighted Thomas Minichmayr, Head of the Kapsch office in Linz. The changeover to the new provider has now been completed. “Establishing the new infrastructure and transferring the IT services was professionally and successfully executed over the past months, and we are very happy with the transition,” concludes Wolfgang Käferböck, Head of IT at KEBA. “It is always a challenge for the entire IT department to swap over from one external partner to a new one during ongoing operations.”

A one-stop service

As a supplier-independent, leading service provider, Kapsch is able to draw from an extensive network of renowned, as well as international, partners to serve KEBA. For example, firewall and virus protection are sourced from Check Point Technologies, with the network technology from Cisco, and basic SAP operations implemented together with partner X IT. Kapsch BusinessCom takes over operation of the IT infrastructure in Austria and on behalf of KEBA sites in Asia, Europe, and the US, and cooperates with the Linz AG for data center housing and carrying.

This outsourcing contract forms the basis for a long-term partnership. It can also create the foundations for jointly solving other future IT challenges. “We also help KEBA in implementing security-related issues,” says Thomas Minichmayr, talking about a current area of cooperation. “One of the first measures has been a security awareness workshop on current IT threat scenarios which was run for KEBA employees at the Austrian site. During the workshop, employees learned about active measures to ensure and raise data security levels.”
