Kapsch BusinessCom invests in data science specialist AIMC Advanced Information Management Consulting GmbH

Austrian company AIMC is active in the rapidly growing data science sector, where big data meets business

Vienna, April 5, 2017 – Kapsch BusinessCom took a 25 percent stake in Advanced Information Management Consulting GmbH (AIMC) in February 2017. The company was founded in 2002 and is active in the data science sector. Eight highly specialized employees work on extracting information from large quantities of data which they then use to recommend actions that empower companies to act more efficiently. AIMC is specialized in content analytics, predictive analytics, and similarity analytics. AIMC is also a license partner of IBM Watson, and a cooperation partner to Oracle for the statistical development platform R. One focus of their activities currently lies in medical consulting, where AIMC has developed the self-learning knowledge platform Medical Content Analytics which, with support from IBM Watson, can read and evaluate unstructured physician's letters.

Big Data: 2.5 nonillion bytes per day

“2.5 nonillion bytes of data (i.e. 1030) are generated every day. Collecting, processing, analyzing, and visualizing this data enables many industries to save time and money. We use innovative analytical tools and develop queries which distill valuable information from confusing quantities of data. Together with the customer, this information is used to derive hypotheses which are then statistically examined and worked up into decision-making tools for the company’s management. Products and processes are optimized, allowing new business models to be developed,” explains Martin Weigl, Managing Director of AIMC.

Practical examples demonstrate the company’s success: predictive analytics enables machines in the production industry to be serviced before they break down; cognitive computing empowers computers to learn human behavior in order to independently imitate working processes, or to support sales and services processes in the form of chat bots; cross-selling and recommender systems predict customer wishes and increase revenue in online shops and fast food restaurants; fraud detection models recognize attempts at fraud in real time.

“AIMC is the perfect complement to our digital ecosystem,” says a delighted Jochen Borenich, Member of the Management Board of Kapsch BusinessCom. “In the end, all digitalization projects and IoT solutions are concerned with generating and evaluating data in order to determine actions and activities. The future task of such data scientists is also to collect personal data from a variety of sources and interpret it effectively. We already have several joint projects in the pipeline in the field of Industry 4.0, in healthcare, and in the tourism sector,” says Jochen Borenich, offering a glimpse of the planned cooperation between Kapsch and AIMC.
