The Role:
Kapsch’s Tolling Division has an opening for a Software Support Engineer. As part of the Software Operations and Maintenance group, you will be a part of a group that provides 24x7 support for our high-speed tolling solution for our customers in North America. You will become a technical expert on our software processes and equipment used to provide transaction data. The Software Support Engineer will work collaboratively with software development in diagnosing and fixing production software issues, building and maintaining tools for deployment and monitoring operations, automating and streamlining our operations and software release processes, and performing software maintenance and configuration.
Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot and resolve software and peripheral device issues on production systems running lane solutions for multiple customers in a 24x7 environment
Perform root cause analysis, developing and implementing permanent solutions to prevent future incidents
Document troubleshooting and configuration processes in our online wiki to improve operational practices
Write, improve and debug scripts to monitor and automate production processes or efforts
Create and implement solutions to detect and resolve potential problems to prevent outages
Improve and maintain the software configuration management system, driving standardization across all customer configurations
Must be organized and able to multi-task and prioritize activities, completing tasks and objectives independently and with attention to detail, while remaining calm under pressure
Identify potential problems concerning business rules and integration issues, suggesting alternative solutions
Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and clients, keeping all relevant parties informed on issue or project status
Provide technical expertise and leadership to support team in the analysis, design, test and support of tolling applications
Interface with client, software operations and developers to ensure that solutions are implemented accurately
Part of on-call rotation to address high severity customer issues during non-business hours

What we are looking for:
Minimum 5 years of experience providing development/technical engineering and operations support in a 24x7 mission critical transaction processing environment
Solid Linux background and experience in at least one scripting language (Bash, Python)
Experience with Linux OS configuration, Windows Server support, and VMWare
Some knowledge of and ability to write simple queries for relational databases (Oracle/PL SQL, MySQL)
Understanding of networking basics and protocols including basic troubleshooting
Ability to learn quickly about the tolling industry, our software solutions, device configuration, troubleshooting, and unique customer configurations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills paired with an enthusiastic attitude to support and resolve customer problems
Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to express complex technical concepts in simple terms
Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to work well on cross-functional project teams and foster team commitment to tasks
