The extreme weather events in the summer of 2021 put CO2 emissions and air pollution on the public's agenda: 70 percent of German and 74 percent of Austrian respondents no longer consider road traffic emissions acceptable.
In particular, the switch to zero-emission cars is taking too long for many. The recent EU ban on combustion engines from 2035 will not change this slow development in the opinion of the majority. Fast-acting tools, such as digital traffic light control or smartphone apps provided by city administrations, on the other hand, are highly popular for reducing traffic jams sharply. These are the results of the Kapsch TrafficCom Index 2021, a representative survey of citizens in Germany (N=1,000).
