Vienna, April 19, 2017 – Kapsch BusinessCom will present its comprehensive range of digital solutions for local business owners, tourist offices, and skiers at INTERALPIN 2017, the leading trade show for Alpine technologies, from April 26 to 28, 2017 at Booth A18 in Hall A. Alongside solutions such as Digital Signage as a Service, Kapsch will hold live demonstrations to showcase the EVOSKI Ski Navigation app from EVOLARIS for the first time. Skiers can use the piste navigation system to find a favorite hut nearby or a specific ski lift, just like in a car. Routes can either be planned in advance or spontaneously from the piste. The EVOSKI app has been available at all 25 Ski amadé resorts (Salzburg and Styria) since this winter, where it can be displayed directly in smart skiing goggles. The video at evoski.evolaris.net provides a brief look at how the app works.
Digital Signage as a Service is a comprehensive solution for the latest indoor and outdoor information systems from Kapsch BusinessCom. It includes everything from planning to custom project development, hardware and software, assembly, installation, commissioning, service and maintenance concepts, as well as financing through to technical and editorial content management – all from a single source. “We believe that close cooperation with our customers over the course of the entire project is key. This is the only way to create solutions that meet their individual needs and offer visitors to the tourist regions added value as well,” explains Christian-Thomas Retinger, who is responsible for the development of digital information systems at Kapsch BusinessCom.
Well-informed on the piste
Kapsch has now implemented a number of digitalization projects for ski regions in Tyrol (e.g., Hochfügen, Hochsöll, Galtür, Alpbach), Vorarlberg (e.g., Lech am Arlberg, Pfänderbahn, Brandnertal), and Salzburg (Obertauern). “Everything from current waiting times at ski lifts and cable cars, weather updates, and special offers from local businesses is available via the network, which creates the basis for improved services, multimedia entertainment, and added safety,” explains Christian-Thomas Retinger. Guests at the Hochfügen ski resort, for instance, are always well-informed on the piste thanks to the comprehensive End-to-End information system – Digital Signage as a Service.
In Brandnertal, lift users now also benefit from a new LED-based information system from Kapsch, which was installed only recently. The content for the seven new digital information systems is fed into the system centrally from the station in the valley. Operations managers or lift workers can submit live reports such as avalanche warnings within minutes via a simple web interface. The displays of the information system are based on LED technology. “The advantage of this is that the fully graphics-enabled LED ticker displays are 14 times brighter than a desktop monitor, so they are easy to read even in direct sunlight. At the same time, LED solutions are extremely energy efficient and weather resistant, whether it is minus 20 or plus 60 degrees Celsius,” says Christian-Thomas Retinger.
Technology leasing as a financing option
The high initial investment is often a barrier for many companies, which is why Kapsch has developed special financing models for its customers. The various leasing models enable tourism operators to fit the technology needed into even tight budgets. Christian-Thomas Retinger knows from talking with existing and potential customers that digitalization quickly pays for itself: “Intelligent networking doesn’t just benefit visitors and the companies that make the systems available – it’s good for the entire region. This also offers an attractive channel for marketing products and services. Ultimately, it creates valuable momentum for tourism as an economic driver.”
