1991 - 1995

1991

Kapsch Traffic Control Systems established as a division of Kapsch Corporate Communications Networks.

1994

The first commercial multi-lane free-flow toll collection system is installed on the Tauernautobahn in Austria.

1995

Kapsch awarded contract for the realization of the nationwide Ecopoint System, the world’s first emissions-based traffic management system.

1996 - 2000

1998/2000

An electronic single-lane ETC system is installed on the Öresund and Storebaelt bridges connecting Sweden with Denmark. This is the first fully interoperable system to be implemented between two European countries.

1999

Kapsch acquires the toll collection division of Bosch Telecom Germany.

In Switzerland, Kapsch implements the nationwide infrastructure and enforcement systems for the Heavy Goods Vehicle System “LSVA”.

The Melbourne City Link is the world’s first multi-lane free-flow toll collection system for stop-and-go urban traffic.

2000

Kapsch acquires Combitech Traffic Systems AB, Sweden.

2001 - 2005

2002

Kapsch TrafficCom AG established in the course of restructuring Kapsch AG.

2004

Austria introduces the national truck road user charging system: the first nationwide multi-lane free-flow system on major highways anywhere in the world.

In December, the fully electronic multi-lane free-flow system for Autopista Central, Santiago de Chile begins commercial operation. It extends from north to south through the centre of Santiago, a total of 64 km.

2005

In Santiago, Chile, Costanera Norte multi-lane free-flow system starts operation on 35 kilometers of urban highway.

2006 - 2010

2006

Kapsch TrafficCom acquires DPS S.A., Argentina and Chile.

Vespucio Norte Express, comprising 30 km of the ring-road around the center of Santiago, with dual and triple lanes, several new bridges and bypasses goes into operation.

2007

Kapsch TrafficCom is listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange.

Kapsch TrafficCom integrates video specialists Artibrain GmbH into its organization.

The nationwide electronic toll collection system for the Czech Republic goes into operation after just nine months of preparation time.

Kapsch TrafficCom contracted to equip New Zealand’s first fully electronic multi-lane free-flow toll collection system.

Kapsch TrafficCom is awarded contract to equip the North-South Bypass Tunnel in Brisbane, Australia’s longest tunnel.

2008

Kapsch TrafficCom acquires the assets of the Mobility Solutions unit of TechnoCom Corporation, U.S.A.

Kapsch TrafficCom strengthens its involvement in Italy: Partnership with Busi Impianti and founding of the Kapsch-Busi joint venture.

In India Kapsch TrafficCom equips National Highway No. 8 with a modern manual/electronic toll system. The central toll plaza with altogether 32 toll lanes is one of the largest toll stations in Asia.

In Thailand, Kapsch TrafficCom is contracted to install single lane ETC systems on the Chalerm Maha Nakhon Expressway, the Chalong Rat Expressway, and the Ramindra Outer Ring Project totaling over 55 km.

Kapsch TrafficCom joint venture Kapsch-Busi wins City Access Control in Bergamo, Italy and in Cremona, Italy.

In Chile, Sociedad Concesionaria Túnel San Cristóbal S.A enters into operation with their 3 km tunnel, using a fully electronic multi-lane free-flow system from Kapsch TrafficCom.

2009

The South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL) awards the contract for the implementation and operation of a multi-lane free-flow system in the Gauteng Region to a consortium led by Kapsch TrafficCom. The Gauteng Open Road Tolling (GORT) project is one of the largest of its kind anywhere in the world.

Kapsch TrafficCom is awarded the contract for supply and implementation of the multi-lane free-flow system for the sixth urban concession in Santiago de Chile; Acceso Vial Aeropuerto Arturo Merino Benítez.

2010

Acquisition of 51.43% stake in TMT, RSA. 

Kapsch TrafficCom equips the world’s longest bridge in Thailand with a toll system.

In Brisbane, Australia, Kapsch TrafficCom is awarded the contract for installation of a fully electronic multi-lane free-flow tolling system on the Airport Link, a four-lane tunnel leading from Brisbane CBD to the Airport.

Kapsch TrafficCom announces that its South African subsidiary TMT Services and Supplies (Proprietary) Limited (TMT) has been awarded a contract by the City of Johannesburg to install and thereafter operate an Automatic Fare Collections (AFC) system on their bus fleet worth Rand 175 million (approximately EUR 17.5 million). 

Port of Hood River is the first road operator in the United States to deploy an Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system based on the advanced 5.9 GHz DSRC WAVE technology platform. The installation of the equipment is provided by Kapsch TrafficCom on the Hood River - White Salmon Interstate Bridge, located between Hood River, Oregon and White Salmon, Washington. 

Kapsch TrafficCom signs contract for implementation and operation of the nation-wide tolling system in Poland.

Kapsch TrafficCom AG, listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange in the prime market segment, successfully placed corporate bonds with a tenor of seven years and a volume of Euro 75 million. Kapsch TrafficCom acquires Mark IV IVHS, the largest supplier of electronic toll collection (ETC) equipment in North America.

2011 - 2012

2011

Kapsch Telematic Services IOOO, Minsk, Belarus, was founded.

Kapsch TrafficCom Russia, Moscow, Russia, founded LLC “United Toll Systems”, Moscow, Russia, together with two partners and holds a minority stake of 33 %.

Kapsch TrafficCom IVHS was selected as supplier for the new ten-year technology and service contract by the E-ZPass Group, a coalition of 24 toll agencies in 14 U.S. states.

In Portugal, Kapsch TrafficCom was selected at the end of July 2011 for the implementation and the technical operation, including the maintenance, of an electronic toll collection system for multi-lane free-flow traffic on over 100 km of Portugal’s primary road network for the operator ASCENDI.

In Russia, LLC “United Toll Systems” was awarded the contract for the maintenance and toll-based operation of a 400 kilometer section of the M4 Don highway. In addition to a toll collection system, a traffic information and management system will be installed to enhance the traffic safety and control. The operation agreement has a contract term of ten years with a three-year extension option.

Kapsch TrafficCom AG acquired the remaining minority stake in Kapsch-Busi S.p.A, Italy, and now holds 100 % of the shares.

In Austria, a basic agreement with Asfinag Mautservice GmbH regarding the extension of the operation and maintenance contract for the nationwide electronic truck toll collection system for the period up to the end of calendar year 2018 was reached at the beginning of the third quarter.

2012

In Belarus, Kapsch TrafficCom signed an agreement with the Ministry for Transportation and Communication of the Republic of Belarus for the implementation of a nationwide electronic truck toll collection system. The agreement includes the implementation of a system based on dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) for a road network that will total 2,743 km upon completion of the final project stage.

In France, Kapsch TrafficCom concluded an agreement with the leading French toll service provider, Axxès, regarding the supply of on-board units based on global navigation satellite system (GNSS) technology as well as central solutions for a charging system in connection with the introduction of a distance-based truck tax as part of the Ecotaxe project.
