Kapsch TrafficCom: One step closer to the future of mobility

Kapsch introduces new toll collection and traffic management services at the ITS World Congress in Melbourne

Vienna/Melbourne, October 10, 2016 – Kapsch TrafficCom will be presenting its innovative mobility solutions and services at the ITS World Congress taking place from October 10 to 14 in Melbourne, Australia. With the goal to develop integrated multi-application solutions, Kapsch has ramped up the development of forward-looking Intelligent Mobility Solutions (IMS) to achieve better overall mobility, whether on the highway or in the city. “The industry evolves towards a more user-centered approach. Thus, the further development and integration of our ITS and mobility solutions not only offers new business models for authorities but also improved experiences for road-users,” explains Georg Kapsch, CEO of Kapsch TrafficCom. The upgraded portfolio can be experienced at the ITS World Congress within live demonstrations in Melbourne urban area.

Integrated Traffic Management on Highways and in Cities

Transportation management shows a growing need to integrate more closely the various elements of traffic and mobility management which would once have been considered discretely. This includes freeways, transit, parking, travel demand, agency collaboration or tolling and considers all opportunities to move people and goods in the most efficient way possible. With its cutting-edge traffic management solutions Kapsch offers a balanced portfolio for urban and highway traffic management. For cities and greater metropolitan areas Kapsch offers a software suite that commands real-time events and which includes the whole set of expert modules to optimize traffic. It provides intelligence to the control room including automatic plans, decision support or traffic forecasting that enables collaboration on events between multiple agencies or departments. For the use on roads and highways Kapsch offers an advanced traffic management system with an easy to handle user interface for road authorities. The new iPad App for on-road emergency personnel and staff in traffic control centers offers access to the same data. The app provides synchronized response plans in order to restore orderly traffic as quickly as possible. In addition, on-site staff can communicate with the traffic centers directly through the app.

Integrated Mobility Management

Future mobility for urban travelers will rely on the smart combination of all available mobility services. This includes train, underground, bus and tram as well as car or bike sharing services, taxi and on-demand vehicle fleets. Travelers need real-time information about transport options and multimodal route alternatives including booking and payment services. Together with its partner, company Fluidtime, Kapsch will demonstrate a multimodal mobility service based on real transport data for selected cities.

New features and services broaden possibilities for applications

Kapsch blazes new trails with its tolling portfolio and increases its focus on road user services. Connected Next offers the possibility to connect the tolling transponder to a smartphone or tablet and thereby allowing road authorities or concessionaires to offer information services to road users or to read or update the data stored in the transponder in a secure and transparent way. This new service fully supports other applications such as Automatic Vehicle Identification, parking, city access and therefore offers advanced traffic management functions to simplify the utilization of road networks and to bring added values for both drivers and road authorities or operators.

The Next Generation Tolling Back Office

To road authorities Kapsch introduces “The Next Generation Back Office” for tolling systems. The new solution is a set of interconnected modules that support the automation of core processes like customer account management, inventory management, shift management, invoicing, payments, billing, escalations, case management, violation enforcement, rating, validation, trip building and interoperability. The system is a customizable bundle of services and validations processes, trip handling business logic, trip ration and posting to the commercial back office or other systems as required.
