"With the acquisition of parts of Nortel’s Carrier Networks Division, we have reviewed all corporate partnerships. As a global company, it is vital that we implement a supply chain, which is as efficient and effective as possible. As part of the consolidation of our supply chain, we have decided to bring the manufacturing of GSM and GSM-R systems to Vienna", said Ingolf Planer, Kapsch CarrierCom’s CFO. "Our other suppliers remain unaffected by this decision. For large parts of our manufacturing, we continue to benefit from the cost advantages available in China. It is important that we guarantee the highest quality and delivery availability, as well as the greatest possible flexibility for our customers. This in-sourcing to Austria supports these objectives".
Specifically affected is the GSM/GSM-R access manufacturing (equipment assembly), which was provided by GDNT, a former Nortel joint venture. The PCBA manufacturing, which is carried out in Suzhou, China will also be in-sourced. In the future, the manufacturing will take place at Kapsch Components GmbH & Co KG, a subsidiary of Kapsch TrafficCom AG in Vienna. Kapsch CarrierCom will use the synergies available within the Kapsch Group. Kapsch Components, as part of the Kapsch Group, is a successful partner in the production of electronic components and systems, as well as logistic services for many years. Kapsch Components employs more than 170 people in Vienna.
