"The clear focus on our core competencies is one factor for the success of Kapsch TrafficCom. Our business activities within the road traffic telematics sector, as currently in the Czech Republic, have been very successful over many years. To continue focussing in our target areas, we have decided to withdraw from the business segment mobile train radio devices, which until now represents a relatively low percentage of our total sales,” explains Erwin Toplak, Director of Kapsch TrafficCom. Therefore the railway division of Kapsch TrafficCom is immediately transferred to the newly founded Funkwerk Systems Austria GmbH. Until now, this railway division has been dedicated to GSM-R (the international digital railway wireless standard in Europe).
For the Funkwerk Group, this will mean an opportunity to expand the existing portfolio of products and services. In future Funkwerk Systems Austria GmbH will more strongly concentrate on the sale, development, service and maintenance of mobile train radio systems. This business transaction does not result in any employee redundancies.
The division responsible for infrastructure for digital railway radio communication systems (GSM-R) will not be affected by this sale. It will remain within the Kapsch subsidiary Kapsch CarrierCom. This will enable the retention of valuable know-how within the Kapsch Group regarding railway communication infrastructure. This know-how has been very important over the last few years, for example during the successful Kapsch CarrierCom GSM-R modernisation project for the systems of the Czech and Slovakian railways.
Kapsch TrafficCom is an international supplier of superior intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Its principle business is the development and supply of electronic toll collection (ETC) systems, in particular for the multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) of the traffic, and the technical and commercial operation of such systems.
