South African TMT wins EUR 17.5 million contract in Johannesburg

Vienna, 2 September 2010. Kapsch TrafficCom AG (ISIN AT000KAPSCH9), listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange in the prime market segment, announces that its South African subsidiary TMT Services and Supplies (Proprietary) Limited (TMT) has been awarded a contract by the City of Johannesburg to install and thereafter operate an Automatic Fare Collections (AFC) system on their bus fleet worth Rand 175 million (approximately EUR 17.5 million).

Only a few months after Kapsch TrafficCom AG announced on April 9, 2010 that it indirectly subscribed for new shares in TMT representing 51.43% of the increased share capital, which was recently increased to 56.81%, TMT has been successful with the award of a large contract. "This is a very encouraging development and reaffirms one of our assumption on the investment into TMT that the company is in a strong position to take advantage of existing and upcoming opportunities that are expected to become available in South Africa", says André Laux, member of the Executive Board of Kapsch TrafficCom AG.

Following the award a contract was negotiated and was signed by the City of Johannesburg. The value of the initial installation phases amounts to Rand 110 million (approximately EUR 11 million) and shall be followed by an operations and maintenance element of Rand 65 million (approximately EUR 6.5 million).

"Over the preceding three years TMT has adopted, in line with its overall strategy, a focused market approach in respect of AFC and the related integrated rapid transport solution opportunities in South Africa. This contract award, received after the successful implementation of a similar solution for the Western Cape Provincial Government, has firmly established TMT as the market leader for the these solutions in South Africa", says Douglas Davey, CEO and one of the shareholders of TMT.

TMT Services and Supplies (Proprietary) Limited is one of the leaders in the design, development, deployment, maintenance and operation of transport management solutions in South Africa. TMT commenced operations during 2003 and since then has secured a number of long-term traffic management contracts in South Africa including but not limited to speed enforcement contracts with the City of Johannesburg and Mpumalanga Province (the first end-to-end full service contract awarded at South African provincial level). The identified business sector of TMT is the provision of transport technology infrastructure, systems, solutions and related operational services, collectively known as Intelligent Transport Systems, required by all three tiers of government and in limited cases the private sector. The offering of these transport solutions includes the planning, design, development, servicing, and operation. TMT’s current focus is on the Southern African market. The TMT management team has extensive experience in traffic management, specifically in South Africa, where they have gained valuable experience over the last three decades.
