Kapsch TrafficCom joint venture Kapsch-Busi wins City Access Control in Bergamo

Kapsch-Busi S.p.A. has secured its first major success: Just a few months after the founding of the joint venture of Kapsch TrafficCom AG with Italian company Busi Impianti, the company has won one of the most significant City Access Control Projects in Italy this year. Kapsch-Busi will complete the construction and implementation of the City Access Control solution for Bergamo in around 280 days. Kapsch-Busi will also take on responsibility for the maintenance and technical operation of the system for the first four years. The project is worth EUR 830,000 and is divided into two project phases. A technology developed by Kapsch will be used, which is part of the UTS (Urban Traffic Solution) portfolio.

"We have been able to bundle our core competencies for extensive activities on the Italian market through the joint venture with the Italian firm Busi Impianti. We are pleased that this has led so quickly to an initial success with the City Access Control project in Bergamo. The City Access Control system for Bergamo is on the list of major projects of this type (32 City Access Control stations) in Italy and is therefore one of the most significant in Italy this year. Kapsch-Busi came out on top in Bergamo against the stiffest of competition. We see even greater potential in the area of traffic telematics solutions in the coming years", explains Viktor Hatwagner, Member of the Management Board of Kapsch-Busi.

The order placed by Azienda di Trasporto Bergamo (ATB Bergamo) covers the installation and commissioning of a City Access Control system within 280 days. Kapsch-Busi will take on responsibility in this turnkey project for the planning, coordination and implementation of construction activities as well as the commissioning of the roadside and central system components. In particular, Kapsch is aiming for minimal impact on the historic townscape during construction of the roadside components. Kapsch’s own UTS technology will be used. Another feature of the project is the central system developed by Kapsch, which enables the administration and operation of complex access authorisations for the municipality of Bergamo, in accordance with a wide range of criteria. Kapsch cameras in combination with an integrated central system will record and document all unauthorised entries into the designated zones. Further measures will be initiated in conjunction with the police systems currently in use in Italy.

The City Access Control project in Bergamo will be implemented in two phases; firstly, the installation in the historic town centre (Città alta) and a part of the lower town (Città bassa), while in the second phase, the project will be completed in the hilly surrounding area (Città alta/Colli). Following implementation of a total of 32 control stations, Kapsch-Busi will also be responsible for the maintenance and technical operation of the system for a period of four years.

The BUSI Group has enjoyed more than 50 years of success, employees around 200  people and has seven branch offices in Italy, Russia and Brazil.
