"This order from eircom is a fantastic success for many reasons”, explains Thomas Schöpf, Member of the Kapsch CarrierCom AG Board of Directors. “On the one hand, we succeeded in convincing a large service provider in a new market of our expertise as an implementation partner, and on the other hand, this order illustrates that Amdocs jNetX is currently a state-of-the-art technology. Telecommunication service providers, who want to stay up-to-date, know this and invest in time".
Currently, eircom has a legacy Intelligent Network (IN) platform installed with an End of Life (EOL) situation. The platform provides significant revenue generating services, such as Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Number Translation Service (NTS). Additionally, eircom is investing to ensure that it has the correct strategic architecture in place to smoothly migrate towards an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) based infrastructure environment. "As a consequence, we are looking for a future proof, standards-based NGIN platform solving our immediate IN applications EOL needs, but at the same time providing an open, standards-based convergent solution allowing rapid introduction of new NGIN services and enabling IN to IMS migration", said Geoff Shakespeare, Chief Technology Officer at eircom.
As part of the large Irish order, Kapsch CarrierCom will replace eircom’s legacy Intelligent Network with the latest Next Generation Intelligent Network (NGIN) solution. Prior to the order, Kapsch had successfully demonstrated the advantages of a network upgrade to eircom as part of a Proof of Concept. During the implementation phase, Kapsch will act as Systems Integrator and work together with Amdocs jNetX and NetDev, its technology partners. Approximately 25 persons will be involved in the project implementation until 2011.
The Next Generation Platform creates the basis for future services
eircom’s Next Generation Intelligent Network solution is based on the Amdocs jNetX Convergent Service Platform and NetDev’s Core Intelligence Engine (CIE). Together, these systems provide a secure, stable and high-performance NGIN platform based on open standards, which enable a successful migration of eircom’s business services, such as Virtual Private Network, Number Translation Service, Number Portability, Information & Business, to applications based on the NetDev CIE. The new platform also creates the basis for developing further innovative services. CIE enables eircom to extend functionality with new services and through the creation of compelling mash-up applications. Amdocs acquired jNetX in October 2009 combining jNetX’s leading telecom application server with service delivery and convergent charging solutions from the Amdocs CES Portfolio.
