Vienna and London, December 15 2008 - Today, Kapsch CarrierCom and jNetX announce that mobilkom austria group replaces the existing legacy IN system with a new NGIN deployment in Si.mobil, their Slovenian affiliate.
mobilkom austria group, the leading mobile service provider in Eastern and South Eastern Europe with 17.007 million customers in eight countries, replaces the legacy IN system in Si.mobil with NGIN/Telecom SDP Java technologies from jNetX. "Legacy IN systems result in inflexibility, vendor lock-in and high OPEX. mobilkom austria group has been pioneering the introduction of standards-based Java technologies in the network and can now reap the benefits of important cost reductions as well as significantly shorter time to market for new applications", said Milan Zaletel, Management Board Member at Si.mobil. "Our goal is to migrate all our IN services and customers to a future safe service environment where IN and IMS applications can be seamlessly delivered and which harmonizes functionalities across the whole group", continues Milan Zaletel from Si.mobil.
Si.mobil began operating in 1999 as the Slovenian first private mobile operator. In 2001, Si.mobil became part of the mobilkom austria group. Si.mobil has legacy IN systems in their network and, as more and more operators, recently came to an end of life situation. As part of the mobilkom austria group, Si.mobil has been able to benefit from the group’s state-of-the-art Service Architecture and its experience in new generation Java application servers. Kapsch CarrierCom’s applications, implemented at Si.mobil - Prepaid Front-End, VPN, and Number Translation - have already been successfully deployed in other group affiliates. Implementing the applications on the jNetX platform with a strong support of Si.mobil team allowed Kapsch CarrierCom to successfully deliver the new services and customize them to the legacy services.
Si.mobil is ready for deploying new innovative applications with Kapsch CarrierCom and jNetX technology. No new integration is required with the Core Network elements and OSS/BSS. Launching new applications is greatly simplified once the service platform is integrated into the operator network and OSS. Kapsch CarrierCom AG Deployment of a new application can be as simple as deploying a new jar (Java) file into the jNetX environment. "Kapsch CarrierCom together with jNetX successfully deployed NGIN applications in several group affiliates including mobilkom austria, mobilkom liechtenstein, Mobiltel, Bulgaria, Vip mobile, Serbia, and Vip operator, Macedonia so it was a natural choice for us to select Kapsch CarrierCom and jNetX for our Next Generation IN applications. Both companies have a strong track record in deploying NGIN and now IMS applications for mobilkom austria group, and we have benefited from this experience and expertise. Core and critical applications such as Prepaid, VPN, and Number Translation have been deployed in a very short period. There was no service disruption to our customers. The migration was very smooth", said Milan Zaletel, Management Board Member at Si.mobil.
