MNP - Mobile Number Portability / LNP – Local Number Portability
An increasing number of regulatory authorities in Europe require number portability. The user should have the possibility to change service provider without changing his/her telephone number. This service is applicable to fixed as well as to mobile networks:
- Mobile Number Portability (MNP) for mobile services
- Line or Local Number Portability (LNP) classic fixed network services
The decision to port a number is quickly made, however many things need to change in the network. The complexity of call routing, number administration, service activation and provisioning, as well as service management increase suddenly. Many different items are required in order to implement number portability, such as changes in customer care, billing and the data exchange between carriers.
