VDC Vehicle Detection and Classification System

The Kapsch VDC is a unique, video based high performance system for detecting and measuring vehicles. The data produced by the VDC can be utilised for in-depth analysis of traffic, in real-time, such as for measurement of traffic throughput volume or for variuos traffic statistics.

The VDC is superior in managing high traffic volumes and traffic queues with stop & go behaviour through the detection zone, thanks to the concept of tracking each vehicle through the complete detection zone of the camera sensor units. It is also very robust in regard of weather and light conditions compared to competing technologies.

It also supplies data for each passing vehicle, such as position, size, speed, etc. Overview images captured by the measurement sensor camera can also be produced.

The Kapsch VDC consists of the overhead mounted sensor units, a sensor interface board for the fiber interface between the controller and the sensors, and a PC based controller.
