Vehicle Detection and Classification System
The vehicle detection and classification subsystem continuously measures the location, length, width and height of all vehicles passing through the detection zone of an enforcement station. Each vehicle is measured in the detection zone, creating a location of the vehicle overlapping the locations of transponders measured by the DSRC microwave communication subsystem. This subsystem also triggers the capture of registration images in the vehicle registration subsystem.
Kapsch offers two types of Vehicle Detection and Clasification Systems:
LVDC: The system uses a patented arrangement of infrared laser scanners for the detection and classification of vehicles and is the optimal and most cost effective solution for enforcement stations in free flow traffic conditions.
VDC: The VDC system is based on a stereoscopic video-camera and provides unrivalled performance for all vehicle enforcement in Stop&Go traffic conditions.
