Vienna, August 9, 2012 – Kapsch BusinessCom has implemented a network outsourcing solution for Magna Steyr, the world’s leading development and production partner for car manufacturers. The LAN (Local Area Network), a service provided by Kapsch, connects each terminal at every company site to the IT infrastructure. It’s as easy as plugging in a plug. The increased flexibility and efficiency already helped Magna Steyr to reduce ongoing costs.
"Magna Steyr and Magna Powertrain have been Kapsch network customers since back in 2005. Following the new, exclusive agreement, Kapsch now provides all LAN services and all international locations can be connected. The network infrastructure will be state-of-the-art for at least the next five years as a result of installation of the latest components. Magna will additionally benefit from our leading position as a Cisco Gold partner," explains Jochen Borenich, MBA, COO at Kapsch BusinessCom. A total of 11,600 LAN ports using Cisco components have been implemented in the network infrastructure to achieve efficient provision. Cisco Nexus-components were used to connect the Data Center. Kapsch’s scalable and flexible services now ensure regional coverage in Austria and international coverage at selected locations for a plug and play network.
"Service continuity and know-how are essential for our IT service. We were persuaded that Kapsch was the right partner for us because of its strong, local presence and its expert, highly qualified, certified network engineers," explains Christian Mezler-Andelberg, CIO at Magna Steyr. "The Cisco IT infrastructure from Kapsch now puts us in a position to operate an efficient, high-availability service, out of Graz-Thondorf, for both the headquarters in Steyr, as well as international sales offices. As a result we have been able to cut costs after just two months' implementation." Kapsch started planning in December 2011 and assumed operational management of the existing infrastructure as early as February 2012 and also started developing and commissioning new components. Ongoing actual costs are optimised through need-orientated billing of services and a special Kapsch financing option. If necessary a network port which meets the desired requirements can be provided in short order. This port will be billed for precisely as long as it is used, which means Magna Steyr has upward and downward flexibility within a defined corridor.
Kapsch takes care of day-to-day service: service cloud-computing style
The key challenge where this project is concerned is achievement of day-to-day operations in accordance with the Service Level Agreements (SLA) and simultaneous implementation of move-add changes. Kapsch is able to fulfil these remits to the customer’s complete satisfaction with on-site technical experts at the Graz site and the spare parts warehouse which is available. "In this way Magna no longer has to worry about hardware investments, as these ports can simply be called off as a service, as if it were a cloud specifically for Magna's use. Charging is based on the number of ports used globally," explains Jochen Borenich.
