The Dawn of Integrated Mobility

Kapsch introduces new applications and mobility solutions at the ITS World Congress in Montreal

Integrated Mobility Services…

Today’s transportation management requires full integration of traffic and mobility services, which would once have been considered separate and unique. This includes freeways, transit, parking, travel demand, agency collaboration, or tolling and considers all opportunities to move people and goods in the most efficient way possible. With its cutting-edge transportation management solutions Kapsch offers an integrated, balanced portfolio for all urban and highway management.

…based on platforms…

For example with the help of the software platform Kapsch EcoTrafiX™, a tool designed to capture, aggregate, archive and monitor data from various sources, municipal technicians can access an aggregate overview of transportation event data for subsequent analysis. This includes data elements such as traffic volumes, instant speeds, directional traffic count and characterisation, as well as many other transportation data points.  From this data, authorities are able to analyse and identify the causes of congestions and propose efficient solutions for mitigation. Furthermore, the system captures and consolidates external data sources including   sensorised vehicles, municipal car parks (location, usage), public street parking (SER), police reports, and public transportation creating a real time decision support database that supports the execution of proactive transportation and congestion strategies.

…and communicating systems

Speaking of integrated mobility services, a solution not to be missed is Kapschs “Next Generation Back Office Solution” for all of your mobility-as-a-service (MAAS) transaction processing needs. The solution includes a number of interconnected modules that support one customer account across multiple transportation services business models. From managing the inventory (bus tickets, transit cards, toll transponders) to building user driven pricing algorithms, the solution allows agencies a financial secure platform to build out your MAAS strategy. An additional focus is connected vehicles. Kapsch will be showcasing solutions for improving safety, security and mobility, all based upon V2X (vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure). The cooperative communication system includes vehicles and infrastructure systems interconnected with each other. Vehicles can warn each other about accidents, breakdowns or bad weather and can transmit this data to traffic management centres resulting in the implementation of traffic control measures such as dynamically-regulated speed limits.

Mobility-as-a-Service

Future mobility for urban travelers will rely on the smart combination of all available mobility services. This includes train, underground, bus and tram, as well as car or bike sharing services, taxi, and on-demand vehicle fleets. Travelers need real-time information about transport options and multimodal route alternatives including booking and payment services. Together with its partner Fluidtime, Kapsch will demonstrate a multimodal mobility service based on real transport data.

In cooperation with the Swedish start-up UbiGo, Fluidtime will be implementing the Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) app UbiGo, which is based on the platform FluidHub. The mobility app combines public transport, car-sharing, rental car services, and taxi into one intermodal on-demand mobility service. It is based on a flexible monthly subscription with an account that is shared among all members of a household, which is easy to top up and has the option to rollover any services that have not been used to the next month. The service offers easy and sustainable transportation options without having to own a car.

Features ensuring fluid traffic flow

Kapsch blazes new trails with its tolling portfolio and increases its focus on road user services. One of its solutions offers the possibility to connect the tolling transponder to a smartphone or tablet and thereby allow road authorities or concessionaires to offer information services to road users, or to read or update the data stored in the transponder in a secure and transparent way. This service fully supports other applications such as Automatic Vehicle Identification, parking, and city access and therefore offers advanced traffic management functions to simplify the utilization of road networks and to bring added values for both drivers and road authorities or operators. It also fits into the many solutions provided by Kapsch.
