25 years of trainees – on the fast track with the Kapsch trainee program

For 25 years now, Kapsch has relied on providing its young employees with exceptional support, leading the way in Austria.

Vienna, November 8, 2017 – 2017 is a special year for Kapsch. In addition to its 125th birthday, Kapsch is also celebrating the 25th anniversary of its trainee program. The program offers young employees an interesting way to begin their professional careers. Each year, three or four university graduates with technical or business degrees enter the exciting world of a globally operating technology group. Trainees spend two years rotating through up to four divisions selected to align with their goals, independently manage projects, and take part in customized training courses – including an international assignment at one of the company’s sites around the world.

“The primary objective of our training program is to be able to meet our staffing requirements for highly qualified employees in all of the functional areas from our own ranks,” explains Georg Kapsch, CEO of the Kapsch Group. The trainee program creates a pool of talent for specialized and managerial roles. It provides a comprehensive overview of the company’s structures and processes and is a fixed component of our corporate philosophy. As a key element, the trainee gathers valuable experience in an international exchange and learns the various facets of an innovative family-run company.

Project goals are set and milestones defined right from the beginning. From trainee to the boardroom – by no means a solitary case at Kapsch. “The program works because it is supported by the owners and the management,” explains Thomas Schöpf, who once began his career with the company as a trainee and now works as COO in the Executive Board of Kapsch CarrierCom.

Building a network across the company

Team building and networking are essential strategic elements of the Kapsch trainee program and hold a special status. Team-building measures include monthly meetings of the current Kapsch trainees, trainee weekends held annually, and regular meetings of former Kapsch trainees.

The 25th anniversary celebration was held in early November 2017, once again emphasizing the fact that loyalty to Kapsch extends well beyond the trainee program. All of the trainees of past years and their companions were invited to the celebration.
