GSM-Railway
Due to different standards for the European railways radio systems, border-crossing rail traffic currently faces problems. Depending on the route, certain trains must be equipped with radio sets for up to 4 different radio systems. In addition, the various departments of the railway authorities operate their own radio networks, which are not compatible among each other. Therefore, the European railway authorities have decided in favor of introducing a standardized, integrated radio network on the basis of GSM in the framework of UIC (Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer; International Union of the Railroads).
